Is REMNANT II a Worthy Souls-Like? A Review
Updated: Nov 4
Remnant 2 is a great souls-like game that feels good even after playing masterpieces like Elden Ring. It blends Destiny gunplay with familiar mob killing alongside difficult bosses to defeat.
Unique Boss Designs Shine in Remnant 2, but Mediocre Story Lets It Down
The multiplayer aspect is something I wish was added to more Souls-Like games, but unfortunately for me, my Remnant 2 partner sucked at the game...Without getting into spoilers, the boss battles do remind me of Elden Ring both in their difficulty and unique character designs.
They have some of the most distinctive and well-designed bosses I've played. When you get to [REDACTED] I loved the goofy character design for the mobs in that area, they were unpredictable and very well done. The bosses you fight are some of the most uniquely designed bosses I've seen in a game. This one boss, of which I will not name, is practically an IQ test of skill which was frustrating but also exhilarating to play and finally beat.
The music for the boss fights is good, but the main issue with the game is its mediocre story, it fails to be interesting, especially at the start. It's not bad, it's just not anything groundbreaking. The narrative, especially in the beginning, feels somewhat lackluster and uninspired. The Final Boss fight... is probably the best and most unique one I've ever played and well done to the programmers who put that together.
Conclusion
Overall, Remnant 2 carves out its own place in the genre, offering a Souls-like experience that stands tall with its innovative gunplay, fantastic boss designs, and cooperative story multiplayer. It's an engaging and rewarding adventure for fans of challenging games, even if the story might not hit the same high notes as the combat and visual design.
